5 Unmissable Music Events This September in Taipei

ei a

Dear Taipei,

It seems like September is shaping up to be the month for all manner of unmissable music events in Taipei. When I was researching events for my Taipei This September article, I came across a considerably larger number of music events than usual.

As I couldn’t fit them all in my event guide, I thought what better to do than to tell you all about them!

5 Unmissable Music Events This September in Taipei

September 10: Daniel Pearl World Music Day

What is Daniel Pearl World Music Day?

With exciting new music festivals popping up every year, it’s easy to dismiss how challenging it is to establish a music festival which not only endures through the years, but stays ever-true to its core beliefs. Daniel Pearl World Music Day is one such festival that has achieved this, with this year marking the 15th year of the festival.

According to the official site, the Daniel Pearl World Music Day is “an international network of concerts that use the power of music to reaffirm our commitment to tolerance and humanity. Since 2002, Daniel Pearl World Music Days has grown to include the participation of more than 13,900 performances in 140 countries”.

The Taipei event  will be held at Taipei Hakka Cultural Park. The initial band announcement includes: Dex (Australia), Destroyers, Hang in the Air, Slacktide,Ghost Money All Stars, The Flat Fives, Project X, The Bee Toast and Point 22. It’s run by the guys who throw the Tiger Mountain Ramble and Urban Nomad, so you know it’s going to be one hell of a day. And if all that wasn’t enough to sell you on the idea, it’s free.

September 17: EarthDance

Based on this image alone you can tell EarthDance Taipei will be a bit out of the ordinary (Credit: EarthDance)

What is EarthDance?

The slogan of “Let’s Dance for Love & Peace” gives you a pretty good indication of the vibe you can expect from EarthDance, but you’ll probably want a bit more info before you sign yourself on. Having been on hiatus for 5 years, Earthdance is back for one chilled day to night musical experience. Or to use the words of the organizers, its “back to our love, back to our music.”

What’s the music like? There’s everything from DJ sets to psychedelic rock. Take a peek at the full lineup: Duckie DigDoug, JackE, Jack @ 志杰, Luke Morpheus, Peter Yu, Snaz, Seaman DC, Tai, Tiger, 星蝶谷, BIGGA MAMA/OD&Sunny.

The event seems to be free, so why not check it out if you’re free? You’re at least sure to get a good story or two out of it!

September 11: Road to Ultra

Road To Ultra is undoubtedly one of the biggest music events of the year in Taiwan (Credit: Road To Ultra)

What is Road to Ultra?

Many of you will need no introduction to Road to Ultra, but for the rest of you, here’s the 101 so you can stay in the loop too. Road to Ultra is a one-day, one-stage EDM festival which originated in Seoul in 2012, and has since spread rapidly to everywhere from Japan to Puerto Rico.

Oftentimes, touring artists bypass Taiwan, so if you’re a fan of DJ giants such as Afrojack, deadmau5, DJ Snake and one of my faves, Alesso you should seriously consider forking out the small fortune (NT$3800!) it costs to experience this musical bliss.

Definitely one for the EDM crowd.

I’ve heard from quite a few friends it’s well worth the major cash withdrawel if the attending artists are your jam.

September 19: Queen and Adam Lambert

There’s sure to be some of you that will want to take this rare opportunity to see Queen in the flesh (Credit: The Telegraph)

What is Queen and Adam Lambert in concert?

Queen is coming to Taipei. I repeat: Queen. is. coming. to. Taipei. Even as a non-fan (yeah, I said it!), I know what a big deal they are, and the even bigger deal it is that they’re coming to Taipei.

The British rock band is one of the most iconic bands of all time, and have been long cemented in music history for making colossal contributions to rock (and let’s not kid, many a karaoke night).

For this one-off concert in Taipei, the current members of Queen will perform their most classic hits with Adam Lambert as the lead vocalist. Yes, former runner up of American idol, Adam Lambert, will be up their with the rock gods. Surely, I’m not the only one to not know about this collaboration? But perhaps I am, because they’ve apparently been performing together in various engagements since 2011. You’ve gotta admit watching the clip below, he does a pretty amazing job.
