Les Confidents by Michel Goulet in Palais Royal Gardens

Sculptor and artist Michel Goulet from Montreal has taken discarded green iron French park chairs and turned them into poetry in the gardens of the Palais Royal.

Goulet redesigned the classic chairs and made them into 10 love seats, each facing each other. The back of each chair is engraved with a quote or short verse  from a world famous poet with their name below. There’s also a portal to plug your headset into and listen to the poems in their entirety, with many of them read by well-known French actors. The objective of Goulet was to make poetry more accessible to the public.

Go take a seat in the splendor of the gardens at the Palais Royal with your loved one and be swept away by poetry from the ages.

Below is a list of the poets and the works they are quoted from.

Charles Baudelaire from Les Fleurs du Mal, 1857 and Ingeborg Bachmann from Discours, 1959

- Paul Verlaine from Sagesse, 1881 and Mahmoud Darwich from Nous choisirons Sophocle, Actes Sud, 2011

- Anne Hebert from Le torrent, Editions Hurtubise, 2011 and Yannis Ritsos from Tard, bien tard dans la nuit, Editions le Temps des Cerises, 2014.

- Pier Paolo Pasolini from Etroitesse de l’histoire et immensité du monde paysan, open letter to Italo Calvino « I Regret », July 8, 1974 and Victor Hugo from La Fin de Satan, 1886
