Vacation Funding: Four Ways to Save for Your Next Adventure

“Fill your life with experiences, not things. Have stories to tell, not stuff to show…” –Author Unknown

We all need to unwind and enjoy at least a week doing what we love.

This is precisely what vacations are for—to enable us to relax, tune back in and get back in touch with ourselves. Unfortunately, while vacations are supposed to be serene and comforting, it can be rather hard to have peace of mind when you are struggling and contemplating of how to pay for it all. As the year draws to a close, we are yet to usher in another year that we are looking forward to pepper with epic adventures and titillating travel journeys—all of which are only possible if we have enough finances to cover them. So, if you have ever been dreaming about a getaway that you can reminisce about for years to come or a travel venture you are sure to commit to your memories, then it is best if you came up with a saving scheme to fund your travel endeavor. Saving does not have to be a bore or a chore. Furthermore, it does not have to feel like you are sacrificing a lot either. After all, a little creativity can go a long way. So, before planning that epic getaway to Cebu and looking for hotels in Cebu City, take a gander at this list for some ways you can save up:

Open a vacation bank account

If you are truly dedicated to saving up Money for your vacation, open a travel bank account that is solely for your vacation expenses. If you wish, you can set up automatic payments into the account and simply leave the money alone until it is time for you to go on your trip. Moreover, if you choose an interest-bearing account, it might even grow and be twice as much by the time you go on your vacation.

Cut back on monthly food budget

To fill your dedicated travel fund, you need to cut back on your Monthly Food Budget. This does not necessarily mean that you have to go hungry just so you can travel. Instead, this means cutting back on restaurant meals and opting to have home cooked meals instead. Furthermore, you can save by shopping for organic foods or regrowing your vegetables. You have a myriad of options that do not necessarily mean you have to constrain yourself to food you do not like.

Make extra cash on the side

If you have free time on the weekends, use your time wisely by making more money. If you have a flair for making DIY projects, opt to sell them. If you have spare properties, rent them out and if you have a car, sign it up for Grab and Uber. Additionally, if you have things lying around that you no longer need, sell them as well. In these days, making money is rather easy if you have the dedication and commitment to do it.

Pick up a side job

If your regular job gives you your weekends off, take up a second job to fill up your vacation fund. Of course, you need to work a little harder and pile on those overtime pays. But you will save money much faster if you dedicated some of your free time to earning extra money as well. You can take up jobs such as babysitting, housesitting or dogsitting which all do not necessarily need experience and expertise—just your willingness and your time. Sure, it might mean sacrificing most of your weekends for quite some time, but you would soon find how very rewarding they would be once you book that vacation tour.
