The second installment in my Minnesota Monday series. Check out Part 1 for some great local eateries. This week, I'll let you in on some secrets about the Mall of America, otherwise known as MOA.

First, never go on the weekends if you can avoid it. Parking is a nightmare and the crowds inside aren't any better. Besides, if you're already on vacation you can probably afford to go midday Mon-Thurs.

Speaking of parking being a nightmare, write down your parking spot info! Write it in your phone, on your hand, anywhere. Trying to remember which parking lot you parked in is one thing, but you better have a steel trap to remember your section. However, there are also plenty of cheap public transportation options. The light rail is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to get there.

Wear comfortable shoes. You will be doing a lot of walking and you don't want your day cut short on account of sore feet. Carry a backpack or purse (preferably one with a shoulder strap) with a water bottle and maybe a snack. Food is really expensive and while it is fun to enjoy a meal or a treat at the mall you probably don't want to waste all of your money on food.

If you want to stay in a hotel near the mall, try to look for ones at least 5 miles out for discount prices. Plus, check out IKEA nearby for more fun. Even if you don't buy anything it's a great place to hang out and get some good food.

There are a lot of stores so plan out any you absolutely have to go to ahead of time. Also, if you actually need a specific item make sure to do that first before you start to get hungry, tired, or distracted. It would be a good idea to give yourself a cap on spending before you go and your eyes end up being too big for your wallet.

You are never too young to ride the rides at Nickelodeon Universe (formerly known as Camp Snoopy). Seriously.
