En Route to Pondicherry from Chennai

By Road

Chennai being a Metropolitan city and an IT hub, is well connected to different parts of India by air, road and rail. One can go to Pondicherry via Chennai. At Chennai Moffusil Bus Terminus (One of Asia’s largest Bus Depots), A.C and Non A.C buses going to Pondichery are available at a very nominal fare within the reach of everyone undertaking a journey.

En route to Pondicherry from Chennai is a visual retreat for the passengers and the scenic beauty lessens the stress of the journey. The bus travels through the exotic East Coast Road (ECR) passing through Mahabalipuram, Kalpakkam, Pudupattinam, Idaikkazhinadu (Alamparai or Alambara fort), Mudaliarkuppam (has a boat house), Marakkanam (has large areas under salt pans),Kalapet etc.

The alternative route taken to reach Pomdicherry is through the national Highway 45(NH-45), which is also known as the Grand Southern Trunk Road and passes through Tambaram, madhurantakam, Melamaruvathur, Tindivanam before arriving at the destination. Both the roads are toll roads and approximately take around three hours to reach Pondicherry.

Taxis (non A.C Indica) are also available from Chennai airport. Similarly from the Pondicherry Bus Station, there are many buses travelling to Chennai via ECRBuses usually stop at Mamallapuram.

By Train

Pondicherry can be reached by train from Chennai and is connected to the city by electric broad gauge railway line through Villupuram.. There are innumerable trains to reach Pondicherry like Puducherry Passenger and Chennai Egmore Guyavur Express. It is practical to go to Pondicherry from Chennai by road as the train journey is of longer duration.

By Flight

Pondicherry can be reached by air also from Chennai. From the Chennai Airport there are a number of flights traveling to and from Pondicherry, and gets a fair number of flyers. It takes approximately an hour from Chennai to reach Pondicherry.

Pondicherry, the small town with unique French old world charm is thus well connected with the city of Chennai and thus every year gets umpteen number of visitors who either travel by bus, air or rail from Chennai and bask in the beauty of Pondicherry and makes memory of a life time.
