What is IMUGA – Steps to Apply!

What is IMUGA?

IMUGA is the online platform, which is used for immigration services, from 22nd July 2020. Here, you can apply for a visa, Dhivehi Passport, health declaration, and some other facilities also.

Passport

A Maldivian Passport can be issued to any Maldivian citizen who is willing to apply for a passport. You can easily apply for it through IMUGA. If the applicant is a child (under the age of 18), a request for a passport can be applied by a parent or a legal guardian. Also, the application for the Dhivehi passport can be submitted via IMUGA, the online platform.

Steps to apply for Dhivehi Passports by IMUGA –

  1. Visit the site – imuga.immigration.gov.mv and register the applicant.
  2. Select ‘Dhivehi Passport’ services to apply for passports.
  3. Now, select the reason for applying for a passport. Upload the filled passport application form with the required documents.
  4. You will have to pay the passport fee via the Bank of Maldives gateway.
  5. In the end, if the application is complete, you will get a notification via SMS with the date and time to collect the passport.

Requirements for the passport application –

  1. Passport Application form, IM01, completely filled.
  2. Valid national identity card to prove your nationality.
  3. Passport fee (MVR1000).
  4. Revenue stamp (MVR10).
  5. A passport size photo (a month old). Passport photos should meet all the standards for Maldivian Passports.
  6. For an applicant under the age of 18, legal documents from the court as a proof guardian.
  7. Applicant’s old or previous passport (valid or expired, if there is any).

Tourist Visa

A tourist visa is granted to all nationalities with the facility of on-arrival to the Maldives. Also a foreigner travelling to the Maldives as a tourist does not require pre-approval for the visa and can have an on-arrival visa. But still, the person must satisfy and complete all the Basic Entry Requirements to get immigration clearance upon arrival.

The basic entry requirements for a tourist visa –

  1. A passport with at least 1 month of validity and with a Machine Readable Zone (MRZ).
  2. Details of pre-paid hotel booking/accommodation.
  3. All the details of sufficient funds for the intended period of stay.
  4. Confirmed onward/return tickets to home country
  5. Traveller Health Declaration (THD) is to be filled and submitted by all visitors. Whether you are travelling from or to the Maldives, within the 24 hours prior to your travel, this form is to be submitted electronically via IMUGA.
  6. Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate, if coming from infected countries. 
  7. COVID-19 negative PCR test result. Attached it with the traveller health declaration form (sample taken 96 hours prior to departure to the Maldives).
