Uber partners with NASA to give wings to UberAIR

In what seems to be one of the historical collaborations, Uber has signed a contract with NASA in an annual web summit held in Lisbon this November. As per the partnership, NASA will help Uber develop aerial and unmanned traffic management systems, which will then aid the ride-sharing company to operate in the low altitude airspace over the urban environment.

Uber in 2016 announced its most ambitious project ‘Elevate’ under which the company aims to manufacture flying taxis. Yes, you heard that right. If you think Uber has a limited number of ride options to choose from, then wait for the advent of Uberair that will carry you over the buzzing traffic, saving all the hours wasted in commute.

Uber’s Chief Product Officer Jeff Holden unveiled the teaser of the UberAIR flying car concepts on stage and it has already impressed a quite a lot of people. While the outlook of UberAIR resembles a helicopter, it is nothing like it when it comes to performance.

The vertical takeoff and landing vehicle (VTOL) under production, can reach maximum speeds of 200mph (320kph) with lesser emissions and noise levels than the conventional helicopters, making it the prime choice.

And the most interesting part is UberAIR costs the same as UberX. Further, Uber has also announced plans that they will work hard to cut down the expenses bringing the cost of travel closer to a normal taxi journey.

If everything goes per plan, UberAIR will launch its services in the cities of Dallas, Dubai, and Los Angeles by 2020. It should also be noted that Uber launched UberBOAT service to tourists and residents of Dalmatian coast a few months back.
