The Allure History of Villa Escudero Plantations & Resort

It was established in the 1880s by Don Placido Escudero and his wife Dona Claudia Marasigan as a self-contained productive coconut farm. Originally devoted to sugarcane, the crop was switched to coconut by their son Don Arsenio Escudero in the early 1900s. He created the country’s first operational hydroelectric plant to power his desiccated coconut industry and Villa Escudero, which he and his wife Dona Rosario Adap constructed in 1929.

Their children opened the estate to the public in 1981. Since its humble origins, the resort has grown into a popular tourist attraction for locals, abroad Filipinos, and a diverse range of international visitors to the country. It has a global reputation as a showcase for the Philippines’ rich cultural legacy, providing a captivating view of the country’s history, food, attire, customs, and natural beauty within two hours from Manila.

The Labasin Waterfalls Restaurant is one of Villa Escudero’s main attractions. Enjoy our traditional Filipino buffet meal, kamayan style, while soaking your feet in the shallow flowing water.

During the Spanish colonial era of the Philippines in 1872, the Villa Escudero Hydroelectric Power Plant was built as an irrigation system. It was eventually purchased by Don Arsenio Escudero and his wife in 1937 and transformed into a hydroelectric power station to give electricity to their coconut mills and plantations.
