7 Reasons Sailing is the Best Way to See Croatia

Croatia is an Adriatic playground, with beautiful beaches, hidden coves, stunning coastal towns, and hundreds of islands waiting to be explored. There’s also great food and wine to be had, as well as national parks, castles, and local fishing villages to visit. What’s more, you can spend your days relaxing or exploring under the sun and then partying at night under starry skies.

And what’s the best way to experience all of this? Sailing, of course! Here are seven reasons sailing along the Croatian coast is the best way to go.

1. You get to spend each day in a different location

When you sail along the coast, you can explore new islands, towns, beaches, bays, and coves each day. Spending every day and night in a different location is an amazing way to experience as much of Croatia as possible. As you’ll be on a small ship, you can just moor up to the pier in the middle of a town and then go off to explore the city centre, museums, beaches, or mountains. Then you return to the boat before it leaves in the morning, and prepare to head out to your next destination.

2. You get the best of both relaxation and action

You can spend your days sailing from island to island, diving into the azure waters of the Adriatic Sea, and sunbathing on the deck of the ship. You can head to a secluded cove for a picnic during lunchtime. At night, you can party in town, explore the mainland, or enjoy dinner at a local restaurant. Then you can head back to the boat for a wind down on deck, gazing up at the starry night sky.

And there’s no need to haul your luggage through town to find train stations, stand on crowded public transport or hire rental cars. Sailing is the most comfortable way of travelling and gives you complete freedom to explore as soon as you arrive in a town.

3. You get to see and do many things

There are many other things to see and do while you sail along the Croatian coast.

When you pull into port, you can try cycling, canyon walking, jet skiing, white-water rafting, scuba diving, cliff jumping, or sea kayaking. Or you can visit a fishing village or vineyard, explore ancient Roman ruins, take a cave tour, and finish it all off with a beach barbecue.

You can also walk the city walls of Dubrovnik, climb to the top of the bell tower in Split, and discover churches, monasteries, fountains, and plazas. And because you’re sailing quickly to new locations all the time, you can cover a lot of ground across the country, ticking off all the special destinations you want to visit.

4. You can find secret beaches

Your sailing tour may include regular swim stops to cool off. This involves dropping anchor in a private cove and diving into the turquoise waters to swim to an empty but beautiful beach. You can spend an hour or two relaxing on the beach or snorkelling and swimming with the fish close to the shore. These amazing secluded locations are places you’d never be able to visit if you didn’t have access via boat.

5. You’ll see the most beautiful sunsets

Pull into Stari Grad, one of the oldest cities in Croatia, and watch the sunset over the Adriatic Sea. The sunsets in Croatia are simply stunning – a bright orange glow across the horizon. And after you’ve spent a day sailing across the waters, watching the sun sink into the sea is magical. You’ll see the sky dance with vibrant colours as you feel the wind hit your face and have your senses overtaken by the smell of salty air.

6. You’ll make new friends or deepen existing relationships

On your boat, you’ll meet new faces and forge new friendships. You’ll be spending most of the time with your sailing crew, whether you’re sleeping in a cabin in the boat’s hull, eating your meals on board, cruising the coast, or exploring the mainland. No matter where you’re from or what language you speak, you’ll all be bound together by your love for travel, adventure, and fun. Sailing with other people will deepen your bond and you can create lasting memories together and even lasting friendships.

7. It won’t break the bank

The cost of sailing is cheaper than staying at a hotel and travelling on the mainland during the peak seasons. It’s also affordable if you consider the fact that the cost of hiring a boat for a week is divided by the number of people you’ll be sharing the boat with. What’s more, your accommodation, meals, entertainment, and shore excursions are mostly all taken care of, and are often included in the total price.

Sailing in Croatia could be one of the best experiences of your life where you’ll make truly unforgettable memories. Bon voyage!
