Offering plenty of opportunities for sailing, hiking, fishing, and much more, I was excited to visit Morro Bay State Park. It was everything I thought it would be and more, starting with an ideal location. It’s situated just far enough from town that you feel like you have escaped all the hustle and bustle of the city, yet it’s close enough to make a quick run for food and supplies. As an added bonus, the park is well marked, has well-paved roads, and plenty of picnic space with barbeque pits. Each RV spot includes a grill, fire pit, and a lockbox. Most spots also include water/ power hookups.

The RV park is just across from a marina and boat launch, where you can rent canoes and kayaks, and is also right next to an 18 hole golf course that includes a driving range and offers a spectacular view of the bay, Morro Rock, and even the Pacific Ocean. The park is close to the Museum of Natural History, which includes exhibits, nature walks, and tours led by the docents. Of course, there is a huge array of hiking trails in the area, usually leading to one of nature preserves where you can see anything from Peregrine falcons and great blue herons to lizards and monarch butterflies.

The views are definitely one of the best reasons for visiting Morro Bay. Black Hill, in particular, offers 360-degree views of the ocean (watch for seals, dolphins, and whales), the towns of Los Osos and Morro Bay, and Morro Rock. Overall, this is a great place to spend a couple of nights in your RV. There’s plenty to do and see, it’s relatively quiet, well maintained, and safe. Plus, the easy access to the restrooms with hot showers.
