Kundadri

Date: 26-Jan-17

As travel enthusiasts, we keep finding opportunity to visit a tourist attraction during our journey. The long drive from Bengaluru to our native place Udupi helps us in fulfilling our desire and luckily the Route covers few popular attractions as well. As we did our Sringeri trip last year, this time too we thought of covering another tourist destination. The place we chose this time was Kundadri. Kundadri is a hillock near to Agumbe located at a distance of 18 km from Thirthahalli. There is a Jain temple atop the hill which is a holy pilgrimage site for Jain community.

As usual, we (along with Rajath and Megha) started from home in Bengaluru at 3.30 AM and chose to travel via the Tiptur > Kadur > Birur > Thirthahalli route. We had breakfast in a hotel called Masala Suruchi in Kadur and reached Agumbe Road at around 10.45 AM. We took a left deviation at Guddekeri to reach Kundadri ghat road.

At the beginning of the ghat road, you will find a welcome gate to the hilltop. After a small distance, you will find a small gate from where the actual ghat road starts. When we visited, this gate was closed. We went ahead and checked if it was locked. Luckily, the gate was not locked. In case if you find the gate closed, please go and open it yourself. There is a neat and very narrow tar road after this gate that will take you till the top. However, to try this road, you need to be careful and attentive. The road is very very narrow and is extremely steep. The winding roads create zero visibility of the vehicles coming from the opposite direction. If you love to drive or ride, do try out this road. You can take motivation from us. We went in Nano with four people in it.

Once you reach the top of the hill, from the parking lot, you need to climb a few steps to reach the temple. Sadly, when we visited, the temple was closed (though the timing was written as 8 AM to 6.30 PM, it was closed at the time of our visit). If you walk a little further, you can see amazing aerial view of the surrounding areas. One will absolutely fall in love with the breathtaking view of mother nature. We have read in many blogs that Kundadri has become trekkers’ favorite spot. There is a separate trail for trekkers which goes through thick forest and is a challenging route for beginners. If you are travelling via Agumbe route, we would recommend you to visit this place once.

After capturing few photos in our cameras, we left from Kundadri at around 12 noon, took the Agumbe road and reached home at around 1.30 PM.
