Attractions to visit in Amritsar: The Golden Temple & Wagah Border

In spite of the fact that you might have been to Chandigarh and Ludhiana, if you have not traveled to Amritsar yet, you have not seen Punjab much at all. It is common that tourists head to Chandigarh and then venture off to hills of Shimla and Manali for a sojourn in the hills. Yet, visiting a religious and cultural center that Amritsar is is different from having a relaxing time in the mountains. This holiday, take a trip to Amritsar to find what you have been missing all along. It is a great city to explore on a long weekend.

How to Reach Amritsar?

The best is to travel by train to the city. One popular train is the Amritsar Express 11057 which runs from Mumbai. You can rent a taxi as soon as you reach Amritsar and then go along your plans. It is always a delight to drive through cities of Punjab which have roads that are sufficiently wide. Going to the Golden Temple and Wagah Border is a memorable experience. Once you have explored the city, you can head to the familiar Chandigarh and explore other places or go on into the hills. There are dhabas along the way to Chandigarh and as you would already have heard delicious stories from many a gastronome, this is your chance for relishing all the Punjabi flavors. Food, adventure, sightseeing – you can’t ask for more on a short trip!

The experience of exploring Amritsar

In Amritsar, you would encounter five things – the Khalsa College, the Golden Temple, the Jallianwala Bagh, the Wagah Border, the shopping markets of the old part of the city. Revisit history at the Jallianwala Bagh where you would feel a profound appreciation for those who gave up their lives in the cunning battle stood strong for our independence.

The Golden Temple

The best of Amritsar is yet to come – the Golden Temple, which is the symbolic crown of the city. The Golden Temple is awesome and certainly divine, a really amazing sight, particularly during the evening time.

Khalsa College

Khalsa College is the maze in the bundle of attractions. You can go in for a snappy look if you are right in time for the parade at Wagah Border. Actually, Khalsa College falls in the way, makes you wonder about the tremendous gardens, the delightful design of the structures, and the well-lit marble-tiled rooms inside. It’s worth the appreciation indeed.

Wagah Border

You would have a great time at the Wagah Border, every evening there is a show of grandiosity along the borders by armies of India as well as Pakistan. It is energizing to bump into the swarm of nationalistic pride. Try to reach by 4 in the evening as you would have to pass through the security checks too. There are vendors selling snacks and drinks. You would witness a great show of solidarity and national pride at around half past five o’clock during summers and half past four o’clock in winters.

Shopping

Shopping in the old city markets takes time. You can shop for stuff, clothing, and a lot of other things. Have a nice tour.
