Happy 1 Year Blogiversary to Us!

I cannot believe how quickly time flies. One year ago, I moved to away from my family, from a city that I loved in a country that I loved. One year ago, Angus and I started this very blog, in the hopes of documenting our adventures but never expecting so much out of it. One year ago, we had no effing clue what SEO even meant. Yet, here we are, Angus and Vivian Adventures is as alive as ever and we have had so many adventures we have yet to tell you.

We started this blog right before school started and shortly after I moved to the UK. A lot can happen in a year. I mean, a lot a lot. I moved to another country, we both finished our Master’s degree, Angus has a big boy job for a HUGE pharma company, and we’re both moving to Manchester in a few days. This year in blogging has brought us a million adventures, from working with Go Ape to braving the winds of Ben Nevis. I’ve learned so much about the internet world, and found out that it really isn’t that easy to maintain a website, especially when starting from scratch.

Instead of rambling,  Angus and I have decided to make a visual timeline to describe things we have done, places we have seen and things we have eaten throughout our adventures. I hope you guys enjoy it, and be ready for many, many more adventures for year 2.

Pre-A&V Adventures

After not having seen each other for over 6 months and being long-distance for 2 years, Angus and I finally met in Iceland for an epic road trip around the Ring Road.

September

Before school started again, we ran as a relay team with Angus’ mum, Lorna in the Tiree Ultra Marathon, did a four pitch trad climb up the infamous Buchaille Etive Mor, and Angus taught me to how to fish for mackerel.

AUTUMN TERM

Angus dove with seals, I ran my first half-marathon, did a solo trip to Ireland, and traveled to Amsterdam.

The Holidays

We Spent Christmas at Angus’ dad’s place, then the next day traveled to Lorna’s for some holiday hikes. We had a chill New Years sleeping at home, and jet set ourselves to Costa Blanca, Spain for sunshine and climbs before school was back in session.

Winter/Spring term

Our second semester at Uni was rough. Angus had his dissertation and thesis defence in early March, and we spent most of April and May studying for final exams. Although we were both busy with school, we still managed to fit a few adventures in. Angus spent a weekend at Lochgilphead and caught fresh scallops for dinner. As a Valentines Day gift, I bought Angus a bow and arrow and we got some local adventures in with that. I also traveled to Sheffield, England to participate in the BUCS bouldering competition and to try my hand at some outdoor bouldering with Glasgow University’s Mountaineering Club.

Post-Exams

Exams were FINALLY over, and I spent my first few days post-exam by hiking a large chunk of the West Highland Way with Deshae and summiting Ben Nevis. Shortly after, Angus and I went to Malta and learned how to freedive. In the middle of June, Angus had his graduation ceremony, graduating top of his class with a Master’s in Chemistry. That’s my man!!

Summer

We spent the rest of the summer working: either me on my dissertation work in the lab or Angus in the chemistry lab. However, on the weekends we would get out of the city and have some Scottish countryside adventures.

ITALy

Italy deserves a whole section of its own. I turned in my dissertation 4 days early just to get a cheaper flight to Venice. We spent two amazing weeks in this beautiful country free diving at Christ of the Abyss in Portofino, eating our weight in gelato in Venice and Milan, and climbing up multi-pitch trad and sport routes in the Dolomites. I can say this was one of my favourite trips of all time.

We hope you enjoyed our blog this year, and we hope to have just as epic, awesome adventures in the upcoming years. Keep reading, and we’ll keep adventuring.

Lots of Love,

Angus and Vivian
