Christ of the Abyss (Cristo degli Abissi) is this stunning Bronze Statue submerged beneath 20 meters of pristine water in the bay of San Fruttuoso. We travelled all the way to Portofino just to freedive here and it was well worth it.

The bronze statue was put there by Guido Galletti in 1954. There are now 3 more casts around the world but this is the original. I think that this state is taken from a cast which was found in the Abby of San Fruttuoso but I’m finding the information on the statue inconsistent. If anyone knows the history for sure then please do comment and let me know.
