This week were were physically broken form a long weekend adventuring so we decided to choose a relaxing activity, something which was just a bit of fun. Family Bowls is an event run by ParkLives where people of all ages can come down to Kelvingrove bowls centre and have a game, all for free. Since we were beginners we started with some simple games to get the technique down. We got some light weight soft bowls and targets to aim for. Being novices we turned up in our hiking boots, turns out only flat shoes are allowed on the lawn so we had to play barefoot. Never mind, all the better for balance and we would need all the help we could get! 

We began by rolling the bowls towards a target, trying to score points and knock our opponents bowl away. Vivian soon got the hang of it but I was a little overzealous. Its surprising how little force is required to send the bowls so far! The weather was beginning to turn but it didn’t stop a mother daughter duo showing us up. They brought an umbrella to eat their lunch under and weren’t fazed by the rain at all. Once the rain eased off, Vivian beat me at a couple more games before we went to return the equipment. The club house is shared by a tennis club and there was a great deal of excitement over Andy Murray’s game, maybe next week we should check out cardio tennis!
