Climbing the Inaccessible Pinnacle (In Pinn) – Skye Sgùrr Dearg munro and the Cuillin ridge

Climbing the Inaccessible Pinnacle

This Sept (2017), we headed over to Skye to climb the In Pinn on Sgùrr Dearg of the Cuillins. We used a route which started in Glen Brittle, we will upload the route to www.angusandvivianadventures.com soon, so you can use it too. The Inaccessible Pinnacle is the highest point of Sgùrr Dearg, a munro in the Cuillins of Skye. It’s considered the most difficult of Munro because the pinn is the highest point. A lot of hikers who are keen to bag all the Munros hire a guide to get them up to the top. The climb is actually very easy, so we decided to give it ago ourselves.

We were lucky and got mostly good weather, with low winds so getting to the base of the In Pinn wasn’t too difficult. We were going to climb the west face but it was so wet we decided to take the easier East face of the pin. Unfortunately, two groups led by guides (guiding 12 non-climbers) arrived and wanted to use the same route as us. Despite us giving them plenty of space and then climbing quickly they weren’t patient enough to give us even a pitch to ourselves. We did get good visibility though and managed to get most the way down before the weather broke.

We will have more posts on the climbing the Inaccessible Pinnacle (In Pinn), Sgùrr Dearg the munro, the Cuillin Ridge and Skye soon. Hopefully we can get the route put up here soon as well so anyone who wants to do it, can use that.
