With warm weather all year around, discovering the many things to do in Miami is very enjoyable. The rich Latin culture makes it a unique city where you can savor all the flavors of Latin America right here in the US.

Gear up to tour our top recommendations just in one day, starting from South Beach, where your hotel is most likely located. Hopefully it’s a Thursday or a Friday to spice your day, you’ll find out why later.

What should an adventurous visitor do? We’ve got you covered. Here’s a list of our favorite 7 authentic things to do in Miami. All can be done in one day and we will take you through them.

Start of Best Places to Visit – Morning in Miami Beach

First, you gotta have an empanada. Miami is full of Latin American eateries to try these meat and vegetable hand held delicacies. If you are staying on Miami Beach, roll out of bed early and go to Charlotte bakery and choose from empanada styles of Argentina, Venezuela, and Columbia.

The staff at this small bakery are super friendly and they will help you pick the right one for you. Pair the empanada with a cortadito, a strong Cuban coffee that you will see locals drinking everywhere in Miami.

After breakfast, take a stroll on Lummus Park boardwalk and head south to South Pointe Park. This park, consistently ranking at the top of Miami best places to visit, is gorgeous!

Take a walk around and you will get a beautiful panoramic view of the ocean, Downtown Miami, Fisher Island and Biscayne Bay. There is a nice quiet beach perfect for kids and a brand new pier where fishing is allowed.

Continue your stroll all the way to the Marina where the rich and famous park their boats and get an up-close view of downtown Miami.

Afternoon Things To Do In Miami Neighborhoods

Now it’s time for lunch. There are lots of places to eat on South Beach, but one of the best things to do in Miami is to venture away from Miami beach and into where the local Miamians eat.

You can drive or hop on an Uber ride to Palacio De Los Jugos at Flagler St & NW 57th Ave.This mini chain with few locations throughout Miami is known for it’s authentic Cuban food.

We picked this location for you for its lunch time lively Miami Cuban scene to be witnessed and for it’s laid back island feel. Get a piña colada and the best fried pork (chicharones) in Miami. You can also checkout what most locals are ordering that day and give it a try. Your stomach will thank you!

Once you’re ready to digest, head to Little Havana Miami neighborhood for a brief visit of Calle Ocho (8th Street in Spanish). Here, you’ll get a chance to experience the charming feel of Havana, the capital of Cuba. Make sure to stop at Maximo Gomez Park where old Miami Cubans passionately play dominos.

For some Cuban Cigar rolling experience, visit Little Havana Cigar Factory where you can learn the elaborate handwork that goes into each cigar. No wonder Cuban Cigars are world famous!

Finally, by now you may be craving some sweet and there’s no better place to enjoy ice-cream like at Azucar Ice-Cream Factory. This family run business offers some of the most creative ice-cream flavors in Miami including our favorite “The Abuela Maria”, containing guava, cream cheese, and other secret ingredients. Cuban ice-cream at it’s best!

After exploring the Cuban side of Miami, head to our art district, Wynwood, to checkout some modern and hipster art in Miami Wynwood Art District. The sun should be cool enough in late afternoons to experience one of the most interesting things to do in Miami: exploring the magnificent murals making up the the largest outdoor graffiti art museum in the world!

This historic neighborhood that was revitalized and turned into a huge artistic project will dazzle you with its meticulously detailed and grandiose murals covering the facades of warehouses.

The best place to start is at their Wynwood Walls office. You can either book a tour with them or go explore on foot the various walls starting at their birthplace, at 25th and 26th street.

Evening Treats

At the end of your afternoon, after you head back to your hotel in South Beach and ready to treat yourself to a unique fancy dinner, we highly recommend historic Joe’s Stone Crab restaurant. This place is always ranked at the top of Miami best places to visit.

This Miami institution with the best stone crabs dishes, is only open during stone crabs season from October to May. Your desire for some seafood will be absolutely fulfilled at Joe’s Stone Crab. You don’t need a reservation to go eat there, it’s on first-come first-serve basis.

If you want something less formal, Joe’s Stone Crab Takeaway is right next door to the restaurant where you can sit in a more relaxed environment or get your food to-go. Their fried chicken is award winning and should not be missed! You can also pick a restaurant that suits your taste in our list of affordable and good restaurants in Miami Beach or one of our favorite high-end Miami Beach restaurants.

And finally to end your evening, didn’t we say you’re in for a treat if it’s a Thursday or Friday? One of Miami best places to visit is Hoy Como Ayer, the most popular latin club with live music, located in the Little Havana neighborhood.

There’s no better place to grab a mojito and listen some wonderful live Latin tunes than at this decades old venue. It even attracts big Latin stars to perform.

Checkout their online calendar and you may be in luck to catch another great Latin star performance. Don’t be shy! Put on your dancing shoes and remember that enjoying the Latin flavored nightlife is one of the most authentic things to do in Miami.
