There is something weird between me and lighthouses. I feel so compelled by them. I don’t know what it is. May be they are just the right amount of mysterious, or their purpose of guarding the shore is just so intriguing. 

The first time a went to see the Montauk Point Lighthouse I was very excited. However, the weather was no sympathetic to my feelings. The day was a little chilly and at the same time stifling. The fog was like a glue to my hair. Not only that, but we could not see a single thing from the top of the lighthouse. At least we could take a look at the small house at the bottom of it and read more about its history.

This visit was a little disappointing for me, so I decided to go again. My birthday was the right day to do that. It was a Sunday and we were told that there will be a bus to the lighthouse. I don’t know if you are familiar with Murphy’s laws, but strangely I can related to them very often. Of course, there was no bus, but for my surprise a driver of another bus offered to drive us there on his break. Also, he told us that he will pick us up on his next one. I felt so lucky.

When we arrived I couldn’t believe my eyes. The lighthouse in all its glory was majestic. I was so eager to climb the stairs again. The high and narrow staircase didn’t make me feel suffocated, because my willingness to take a peek of the balcony was overwhelming. Finally, I was there. The view – indescribable. The sky was blue with just a hint of small white clouds. The ocean beneath it was so peaceful and only a few small waves were rushing to the shore. The breeze was soft and I could see the people far beneath me – sunbathing, chattering, having picnics or just exploring.

 

We took a walk to the beach and sat on a bench there. I felt so happy and relaxed. What a birthday!
