Attractions for the non-tourist in Brussels, Belgium:

Place Flagey: A trendy square in the suburb of Ixelles. Some of the best Belgian fries in Brussels as well as an amazing Market on Sunday mornings.

Place Jourdan: Another beautiful area in the suburb of Etterbeek. Right next to the amazing Leopold Park with festivals year round including Kriek and Beer as well as Belgian Oktoberfest! Head to Maison Antoine for more amazing fries!

Place Du Chatelian: Is an incredible spot for shopping and food with a very Parisian feel. Be sure to check out the open air market on Wednesdays with 60c waffles!

Parc du Cinquantenaire: A large urban park in the east of the European quarter. A beautiful space with drive in movies, regular parades and an awesome museum!

Sablon: With two large squares this neighbourhood is a thriving, lively spot for expats. It is full of antique stores, boutiques, restaurants and numerous pastry shops and chocolatiers. On the weekends there is an amazing antique market 

Matonge: African quarter (which appealed to us having lived in Brixton. Amazing food, music and the coolest cinema: Cinema Vendome! 

Halles Saint Gery: An awesome ancient covered market hall which hosts events and acts as an information centre in the day and a bustling bar at night. In of the most popular neighborhoods in Brussels.

Stockel: An eclectic neighbourhood on the outskirts of the Brussels Metro area. It hosts weekly markets, has a huge shopping  centre and the metro station has Tintin murals!
