A Haeundae Sunrise for New Years

Welcome to 2016!

To ring in the new year this year, I headed to my favorite pub in Busan: the Wolfhound in Haeundae. My boyfriend and I spent the evening with our friends enjoying good food, drinks, and the games that the bar provides. I even managed to land a bulls eye while playing darts!

Proof that impossible things can happen even to the least hand-eye-coordinated people you know.

I had an absolute blast getting to hang out with my friends drinking and Dancing the night away. To me there’s always something special about that last minute of the year, when a whole crowd is just watching the clock and counting down the last ten seconds. It doesn’t matter how drunk/sober/old/young/strangers/friends you are with the people around you, everyone just comes together to celebrate the moment the calendar switches to the new year.

And then more dancing happens. That’s me in the middle in the bright pink dress with my arm in the air, rocking out and having fun.

After getting our fill of dancing and partying, Cody and I headed home to catch a few hours of sleep, because our night was not over yet. We still had a Sunrise to see.

There is a tradition here in Busan where thousands of people gather to watch the first sunrise of the year. There are all sorts of concerts and Lantern Lighting Ceremonies and other festivities. We chose to join the masses down on Haeundae Beach, a 20 minute walk from our apartment. It was so beautiful to see the sun come up over the water, and it was definitely worth getting up early to see.

How did you ring in 2016? Would you ever get back up at the crack of dawn to see the first sunrise of the year? Let me know in the comment section below.
