Five Creative Design Ideas to Bring Disney Magic into Your Home

Five Unique and Creative Design Ideas from Disney Parks & Resorts to Your Home

For anyone who loves Disney and visiting Disney Parks and Resorts, it’s always fun to add a little Disney Magic to your own home. While it’s easy to buy artwork, pillows, kitchenware etc. (and those things are great), it’s even more fun to get a little more creative and unique with your Disney design inspiration.

Inspiration is all around you in Disney Parks and Resorts. There are so many ways that you can incorporate Disney style very creatively into your home environment. It just takes a keen eye and a little imagination.

Think Like a Disney Imagineer

This post is all about creating more subtle kinds of classic Disney Magic around your home, as opposed to creating a themed Disney room of some kind. In the end, you’ll end up with one-of-a-kind creations that put your own personal stamp on Disney Magic.

Here are five great ideas for how to add unique Disney Magic to your home by taking your cue from what you see around Disney Parks and Resorts.

The signpost at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort in Florida.

1. Create a Disney Signpost

I love signposts. Especially Disney signposts. One of my favourites is the one at Disney’s Vero Beach Resort in Florida. A custom Disney signpost is relatively easy to make for your own backyard and can be a project for the family to create together. A signpost makes a great little (or big) landscaping ornament and best of all, it will be unique to your home.

Even in winter this homemade Hidden Mickey looks great in the garden landscape.

2. Create Hidden Mickeys

What Disney fan doesn’t love searching for Hidden Mickeys? Hidden Mickeys are another fun thing that you can create in your backyard or inside your home. We have several Hidden Mickeys around our backyard and it’s fun when guests notice them all on their own. I created several of them using twine circles from the garden center and arranging them into a Mickey head shape. There are a ton of creative ways that you can make Hidden Mickeys and this is another fun and creative project for the whole family.

Silhouettes from Disney Parks (Disneyland on left and Walt Disney World on right) are a great way to add a little Disney Magic to your home.

3. Disney Parks Silhouettes

While not a creative craft type of idea, this one is still fun and totally unique. Get a set of family silhouettes done next time you visit Disneyland or Walt Disney World Resort and hang them together on the wall. They’re real attention getters and they’re totally unique because they are original, one-of-a-kind Disney creations. Be sure to write the date on the back of the frames (especially for the kids’ silhouettes) so that you remember when you got them made years down the road.

There are many ways that you can plant a Disney garden at home. You can recreate a permanent garden bed, or try something like this pepper container garden from the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival.

4. Plant a Disney Garden

If you’re a gardener and have been to the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival held each Spring at Walt Disney World, take some inspiration from the amazing garden designs that you see there and plant a copycat Disney garden of your own. You can even buy one or two garden adornments from the festival to round out your very own custom Disney garden design. If they have seeds for sale, that’s a bonus.

A great theme for this one would be a butterfly garden, so pay attention to what you see inside TinkerBell’s Butterfly Garden area if you choose to go this route.

Fountains are everywhere at Disney Parks and Resorts. With a little creativity you can create your own custom look-a-like. For example, our local Home Depot sells a fountain that looks just like this one.

5. Create a Custom Disney Water Feature

Water features and fountains are an important part of Disney landscaping and who doesn’t love the sights and sounds of moving water?

Pay attention next time you’re walking about Disney Parks and Resorts and you’ll notice water features everywhere. You can have some real fun picking a favourite and then recreating a mini version of your own at home. It can be an indoor table top version or an outdoor garden feature. Whichever you choose, it’s fun and easy to find everything you need at a local garden shop (pumps, stones, liners, decor etc.). To complete the project, you’ll likely have to creatively customize one or two parts to replicate the elements that will make it your version of a Disney-inspired water feature.
