The world can be a happy rainbow
Every individual deserves their basic rights to self-expression, to carve their own identity, choose whom they want to love and to have the freedom to make that choice. Image Credits : Cheston House
Great news: our world is opening up.
We can say with Pride that planet earth is more inclusive than ever, with steps taken and milestones reached ever so often. There’s still a long way to go but look how far we have come! Through struggle and celebration.
It’s a moment of Pride everywhere
Just last year in June, Antarctica held the continent’s first ever Pride event, making it the ‘world’s first LGBT-friendly continent’ (yayy). And look at these cute, fluffy penguins with the rainbow flag leading a revolution!
Fast-forward to this year and we’ve Disneyland Paris becoming the first Disneyland to organize a pride event (woohoo)!
We had Guinness paint its historic gates this year in the rainbow colours.
And oh, we made history yet again this year
This time, in our continent!
In May 2019, Taiwan became the first nation in Asia to recognise same-sex marriage. Over 526 nuptials took place on the very first day of marriage equality.
Everyone can take part
While the Pride event is primarily for the Lgbtq Community, anyone is welcome to take part.
That being said, the person needs to have a strong understanding of what the Pride Parade event stands for.
It’s more than just a celebration, it’s a commemoration of a struggle against injustice and discrimination. It’s about fighting for equal rights for the marginalized.
And if you’re straight and planning to attend a Pride parade, do read this open letter from someone who’s a part of the LGBTQ community.
Travelling right now/ sometime soon?
If you’re in any of these 10 amazing cities at the right time, you will love attending Pride here.
#Throwback : An evening of colourful stories
