The David Bellamy “Blooming Marvellous” Pledge for Nature, 2021

We are lucky enough at Keat Farm to have our parks situated in the gorgeous Garden of England in Kent and we love welcoming visitors and homeowners to stay in our little bit of countryside. Our wonderful wildlife is what lies at the heart of all our parks, which is why we are proud participants in the David Bellamy Conservation Awards Scheme.

The awards came about in the late 90’s after TV presenter and environmental campaigner David Bellamy met with members of the holiday park industry and encouraged them to get involved with helping the environment. A partnership soon developed between the British Holiday and Home Park Association and David’s Conservation Foundation to set up annual awards celebrating parks who stood out in their quest to help the environment.

We joined the scheme over 20 years ago in 2000 and are immensely proud of our success. All 3 of our holiday parks gradually attained Gold status and have remained there until the present day.

Over more recent years several “pledges” were set up to encourage parks to go one step further in their wildlife conservation quests, including the “5 habitats in 5 years” challenge. All of our parks achieved their Hedgerows and Woodland badges and Little Satmar and Quex Park also gained their Wildflower badges. Since 2015 we have also been committed to the Honey Bee pledge protecting those all important bees!

After a rough year (for all of us) in 2020, the awards are back in 2021 with a new challenge. and The scheme is going back to its roots, focusing 100% on biodiversity. In recognition, it has been renamed the David Bellamy Blooming Marvellous Pledge for Nature. Of course, we are thrilled to be taking up this new pledge and each of our parks will be selecting their own challenge from the pledge to focus on for the next year.

Something to Inspire You to Get a Little Wilder in Your Garden

Our commitment to this scheme often gives us the opportunity to work with the Kent Wildlife Trust. In previous years we have seen some of our home owners participating in their “Wild About Gardens” scheme. This yearly challenge is aimed at encouraging biodiversity in our own gardens by cultivating wildlife friendly spaces right outside our own doors.

This year the Kent Wildlife Trust are encouraging “Gardening for a Wilder Kent”.  They have arranged for some local, wildlife friendly gardens to open to visitors this summer. So why not arrange your visit and be inspired to welcome the wildlife into your garden too!
