Hawthorn Farm is ready for summer…

Our flower boxes are all planted up and in full colour, which has certainly pleased the bee and butterfly community. Waking up to the birds morning chorus and seeing the park in full bloom is a sure sign that summer has arrived.

A new bug hotel has made its home opposite our recycling area and we also have plans to add bird feeding stations around the park. Over winter we managed to build several new bird boxes which are already in use and our sparrow population has grown again this year. As recommended by our David Bellamy Assessor we have deliberately left designated areas of the park untouched, so grass and flowers can grow at their own free will and hopefully encourage more insect life.

Our on site cafe is once again hosting their popular bingo nights. They start this Saturday (29th of June) and will then be held every fortnight over the summer. Leslie’s Sunday lunch is also well worth a visit to the cafe for too.

If you like to get out and about there are lots of locally organised walks and activities. The White Cliffs Countryside Partnership has many listed on their website.

For those of you who enjoy live music, the Deal Memorial Bandstand has concerts every weekend until late September. A special mention should go to the Band of HM Royal Marines Portsmouth and the Band of HM Royal Marines Collingwood, who will be playing a memorial concert there on Sunday the 14th July. If you have not seen them yet, they come highly recommended.

The Kent County Show is being held next weekend, from the 5th to 7th of July at the Kent Showground. A great family day out! We also have plenty of ideas in our tourist information office, next to reception, if you are looking for different things to do whilst staying with us here at Hawthorn Farm.

We look forward to seeing you soon.
