As the season draws to a close, the team at Hawthorn Farm are planning the winter maintenance programme to ensure the park is in tip top condition when the new season begins. As is often the case with the woodland nature of the park the trees need some TLC during the quieter times so they will be on the agenda over the coming months.

We will be adding to our bird and bat box collection which currently stands at over 30 throughout the park. The new boxes will be made on-site and their locations have already been earmarked by our team, up to 15 new ones we hope.

We had a very successful outcome for the David Bellamy Conservation Awards again this year, achieving Gold, as well as maintaining our Honey Bee Friendly status for 2017/18. This year also saw the first of the ‘5 habitats in 5 years’ scheme come into play. Hedgerows were the 2017 focus and next year will see wildflowers take centre stage. Our number of raised beds will be growing too and will be planted up with busy lizzies and fuschias which seem to like it here.

The onsite cafe is now closed for the season but will reopen again in March serving their popular fayre and hopefully hosting a few special events which have proved very successful in the past.
