Recycling ‘on the up’ at Little Satmar

Now we are approaching the end of the season the mornings are cooler and the nights are drawing in. The park wildlife isn’t quite as abundant now as our little furry friends start to find somewhere cosy to shelter for the winter.

We have had a fun summer on the park, with several raffles and BBQ’S, all raising funds for the RNLI and the Air Ambulance. A huge thank you to our holiday home owners, touring and camping guests for their kind donations; you raised just over £630, a great achievement!

Over the season we have noticed more of our guests are keen to recycle as our general waste bin now only needs emptying once every fortnight rather than every week. The Garden waste recycling cart has also played a major role in cutting down on waste; contents of which we are able to compost around the grounds. Please keep up the good work and continue to help us recycle as much as possible.

Little Satmar was delighted to receive Gold again in the David Bellamy Conservation Awards as well as retaining Honey Bee Friendly status for another year. The Bee Garden has come on leaps and bounds this year with lots of new bursts of colour which undoubtedly helped our visiting bee population. We have also received a 2017 Hedgerow Habitat Badge for recording 1000 metres of hedge which help provide great habitats for our wildlife. Next year the focus turns to wildflowers which should hopefully encourage more bees and insects to the park.

We have made a start on plans for the winter period; including the planting of wildflower seeds and creating a herb garden. The garden will be available for our happy campers to come and harvest various herbs to add to their culinary delights. We also have the spring bulbs already underground waiting to burst out early next year.

If you are planning to come and visit us before the end of the season don’t forget to pick up a copy of the local Capel-le-Ferne magazine, Grapevine, from reception. It comes out once a month and is full of local events and markets which may coincide with your stay. We look forward to seeing you!
