The Best Fish and Chips in Kent Revealed

The best Fish and chips in Kent and where you can find them!

As it was National Fish and Chip day last month (2nd June), Trip Advisor rated the best places in Kent to get fish and chips, and most of them happen to be down our neck of the woods!

Nothing says British summer quite like enjoying a portion of traditional fish and chips, wrapped up in paper, sitting by the seaside. Over time, the quintessential seaside treat has evolved, with some places now offering gluten free options and less batter. That said, you can’t beat some good old fashioned fish and chips from the chippie, grease and all!

  1. Shakey Shakey Fish Bar – 75 High Street Ramsgate CT11 9RJ

As well as serving a trademark Shakey Shakey seasoning, and homemade fish and chips from cod to mackerel and whitebait, Shakey Shakey Fish Bar also offer a gluten free option AND a vegan option every Monday and Tuesday. For more information, click here.

  1. Papas Fish and Chips, Folkestone – 110 Sandgate Road Folkestone, Kent CT20 2BW

Rated with a certificate of excellence on Trip Advisor, Papas Fish & Chips offers authentic food using only fresh, high quality ingredients and a secret batter recipe! Click here to view the menu.

  1. Ossies Best Fish and Chips – 205 Tankerton Road, Whitstable CT5 2AT

Located in Tankerton and just a short walk away to the seafront, Ossies has been voted one of the best Fish and Chip places in Kent, with reviews describing it as ‘amazing’, ‘delicious’ and even ‘the best fish and chips in the world!’.

  1. Buoy and Oyster – 44 High Street / 17 Marine Drive, Margate CT91DS

Slightly more than your average fish and chip shop, Buoy and Oyster is an upmarket, stylish seafood restaurant based in between the high-street and seafront of Margate.  As well as specialising in seafood using local, fresh ingredients, they also offer a very impressive menu plus a great coffee and cocktail selection. They also have a very cool seafood café in the style of a traditional beach hut, serving fish and chips to go! Definitely worth a visit!

  1. Aqua 43 – 43 Albion Street, Broadstairs CT10 1NE

Traditional family run business using locally sourced products to make their freshly homemade fish and chips. Just less than 5 minutes’ walk from Viking Bay, the perfect place to sit and eat your hot chips.

This isn’t one on the official list but definitely one to try, The Hythe Bay Seafood Restaurant. With a restaurant in Hythe, Dover and Deal, The Hythe Bay Seafood restaurant offers a great selection of seafood, as well as non-fish dishes.

Where is your favourite place to get fish and chips by the seaside?
