When travelers head to Japan they often opt to explore Tokyo, the bustling, bright neon city full of technological marvels and quirky districts – which means its little sister gets unfairly overlooked. Kyoto is just as rewarding a destination, steeped in culture and history that is unparalleled by any other city in the country. 

The temples are arguably the biggest draw here, all of them as incredible as the next. Kiyomizu-Dera is the one with the biggest crowds, yet its scale and majesty mean the influx of tourists never manages to detract from the allure. With a majority of this Indonesian island remaining uncharted and unexplored, there’s plenty of potential to lose yourself in Sumatra. However, somewhat surprisingly, there’s a vast number of things to see and do here; wild jungles, laidback cities, and beautiful lagoons are just some of Sumatra’s best offerings.

If you’re an avid hiker, make sure you pay a visit to Bukit Lawang. This village offers both amazing trekking opportunities alongside the opportunity to spot orangutans in the wild. And Padang, a city in West Sumatra, is renowned for its cuisine – head here if you consider yourself to be quite the foodie. 

There’s no denying Thailand is incredibly popular with tourists, the numbers increasing each and every year. But whereas many travelers flock to Bangkok or Phuket, head off the beaten track and relish in seclusion upon Railay Beach. This shoreline in the quiet and relatively hidden Krabi is quiet enough to be your very own personal paradise.

With jutting cliffs giving way to gorgeous turquoise waters, Railay Beach is perhaps the most naturally beautiful setting in the entirety of Thailand. There are plenty of luxurious resorts here, too – consider visiting with your partner to make the most of it.

Made famous by the film Borat, Kazakhstan is often laughed off as a potential travel destination. Think again – this is a thriving country full of wonder and things to discover. The locals are overwhelmingly friendly, the cities have a cultured European flair and nature is beautiful – it’s a country that should be on your bucket list.

Kazakhstan’s two main cities, Astana and Almaty, contrast considerably in almost every way – the latter is recommended, what for its laidback vibe and natural scenery making for a feel-good visit.
