Taxis On Islay

If you’re planning on visiting some distilleries on Islay then you should decide whether you’re hiring a car or taking your own car and having a designated driver who won’t be sampling the drams at the distilleries.

An alternative to this is hiring a Taxi and letting someone else drive you around the island. This is a popular idea and it makes sense to book as far ahead as you can. The Taxis I used were Arthur Holyoake and Lamb Taxis.

You might also need a taxi to get you to one of the ferry terminals on Islay or to the airport as not all hotels have an airport pick-up / drop-off service.

There is a good public bus service on the island, so look at the timetables to see the routes of the buses and take this into account when booking your distillery tours. The chances are you will still need to take a taxi or two at some point during your stay.
