The end of the ski season at Taos Ski Valley brings the Pond Skimming event. For 2016, this happened on April 3rd. Competitors meet at the base of Lift #4 and can use skis, snowboards, kayaks, and anything non-motorized to skim across a makeshift pond. Many come in costume and prizes are awarded for “Best Costume”, “Worst Crash”, “Best Skim Style”, and “Hero of the Day/Best Overall”. Crowds gather around for a good laugh and competitors get a very chilly experience.
