- Tanzania's Most Experienced Safari Operator

Photographers, wildlife enthusiasts, film-makers and globetrotters all crave for the same whilst traveling to Tanzania in the nearing green season. Their eyes gazing on sun-kissed savannah, all set with the binoculars, cameras and amazed in seconds. Thousands of wildebeests appear in thick population with their newly Born.

So what? You may ask.

The Calving season is not only a special treat to the eyes. Known to be one of the prime features of wildlife action, when calves are born, their fate to survive is decided in seconds. Imagine witnessing a playing ground of predators and new born carnivores with barely any other humans around.  Here is more into why the calving season in Tanzania is going to leave you speechless.

Where to see

Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti National Park, Ndutu Plains and Tarangire National Park

Approximately 8,000 wildebeest are born every day during the calving season from January to February

During this period, southern Serengeti and western Ngorongoro Crater host the highest concentration of predators in Africa at a given time.

Have you ever seen a baby wildebeest take off running just minutes after being born? Lions, hyenas, and cheetahs show up in large numbers to patrol the grasses, waiting for the perfect time to make a kill.

Traveling to the Serengeti during calving season is an adventure, filled with action. The hunting of young wildebeest by large cats is part of nature, and during the few weeks of calving season, you’re sure to see some magnificent kills especially from the agile cheetahs and lions.

The survivors spread across west then they start their great migration north in April

By May the Serengeti’s wildebeest all seem to be moving north, migrating to seek fresh grazing and water. The area around Moru Kopjes and west of Seronera is then hectic with a series of moving columns, often containing hundreds of thousands of animals – joined by many zebras, and a scattering of Thomson’s and Grant’s gazelles.
