Krakow At Christmas

Everybody, – well almost everybody, writes SOMETHING about Christmas. I don’t want to be the exception or unique and the only one who doesn’t – so, a few words and pictures is my obligation to The Festive Tradition.

Last year we were in Bangkok and really had a break from Christmas. We were breathing freely and spending money for Thai Green Curry…… instead of the obligatory presents,  – and no-one was singing carols.

This year we are spending our Christmas  in Krakow.

What a change!

And……….yes, we are going to make the most of it.

Here in Krakow, it isn’t difficult to celebrate. Like every other city Krakow cloaks itself appropriately. However, the festivities concentrate in The Old Town’s huge central square – Rynek Glowny. In this historic district one feels like being in a fairytale enclavewhere anything is possible.

Old Town Krakow is home to one of the biggest  Christmas Markets in Europe. The Christmas Market takes place every year and is a regular feature of the city’s festive season. Traditionally it starts at the end of November and lasts through until December 26th (at least).  It is hard to trace the origin of this old tradition, but the Main Square has always been a major venue for diverse trade. In a natural way, business switches to Christmas related merchandise with the arrival of the festive season.
Krakow Christmas Market materialises in the shape of scores of decorated wooden stalls. They sell a wide range of goods like – toys, confectionery and other foodstuffs, clothes, handicrafts (village pottery, metal work, embroidery etc.) –  Beautiful Products.

Prices are competitive and  bargain opportunities are not uncommon.

Besides shopping, one can help themselves to hot tasty food and beverages al fresco. It is a nice stroll amongst the stalls in the glow of  Christmas  lights and  a backcloth of live music .

A festive atmosphere is not only present in The Old Town (Stare Miasto), but the whole city embraces this special family time of year – one way or another – To illuminate those dark, December evenings. To make us happy. To open our minds for celebrating. To invite us to be willing customers.

The Main Krakow Shopping Mall – Krakowska Gallery warms customers with lights and colours, and enhances the Festive Spirit with the appereance of the annual Ice Skating Rink  – offering Fun for everyone no matter what the weather…

Take time to celebrate your achievements and to plan….

Another dream trip.  Another location.  Another culture.

More people to meet, more languages to learn – I am only saying……Wishing you All around the World a Very Merry Christmas. Hope you have a memorable one!
