Krakow Football – Local Rivalry

One of the things to do in Krakow is going to a football match. Firstly, because you happen to be a football lover (Peter) or, (Me) you are not, but you want to try something different. So we bought tickets to a football match between two teams originated from Krakow: Wisla Krakow and CMKS Cracovia Krakow. The event took place in the Cracovia stadium called Jozef Pisudski Stadium that can accommodate 15,000 people and is situated  next to Blonia Park and, the place where only one week ago the Pope made his presence during The World Youth Days.

There is a history and intense rivalry between those two local football clubs and their supporters but I do not go there…

Cracovia is the oldest football club still in existence and has continually participated in competition from its founding since 13 of July 1906. 110 years!!!

Our tickets cost 28 Pln each and to buy those we had to present our identification cards or passports. I had my ID on me but Peter never takes his passport so I mentioned to the staff member that we had just registered our mobile phones due to the anti terrorist act (issued so everybody could feel safer and better and free of course) –  but it didn’t work. Luckily Peter had his passport number in his already registered phone and this was  enough for the girl to sell us tickets.

The match started at 20.30 and it was a brilliant event. We enjoyed every minute of it watching the footballers playing a good game and supporters giving their own, unique performance. The final result 2:1 for MKS Cracovia – so they enjoy the ‘Bragging Rights’….

Factoid: Bartosz Kapustka, 19 year old Poland winger from MKS Cracovia was signed for Leicester City on a  5 year contract. Good for him. It happened three days ago and I therefore couldn’t watch him. That was pity because Kapustka is my mum’s favorite Polish football player. But you cannot have everything, can you? (I can’t wait to hear his last name pronounced by British commentators) – and coincidentally Leicester City (the unexpected reigning English Premier League Champions) – take on Manchester United in the opening game of the English season tomorrow – The Charity Shield – maybe Kapustka will ‘star’ ?
