Led Zeppelin – Ramble On

Like most people, my early taste in Music was developed by car rides with my parents. Luckily, my dad has outstanding taste in music. I will never forget him playing Led Zeppelin on cassette, air drumming and singing along. Rock on, Dad.

Backstreet Boys – Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)

Third Grade. Blossom Music Center. First concert ever. I don’t remember much of the show, but I do remember wearing the T-shirt to school the following day and feeling like the man. These guys were definitely the most talented of the Boy Band era, it’s too bad they weren’t as marketable as Justin Timberlake.

Eminem – My Name Is

The best part about having parents that don’t pay attention to pop culture is that my mom had no idea what she was actually buying me when I picked out the Slim Shady LP from FYE. I even remember the cashier looking at her like she was a monster for buying it for me. I’ve never heard the F word used so many times in an hour. I had no idea what he was talking about most of the time, but fuck it, it was a sweet album.

Nirvana – Come As You Are

Like my pal and original AudioBio writer, Nick Battaglia, I had a borderline unhealthy obsession with Nirvana. As mentioned before, my dad has great taste in music and already had all the Nirvana albums in the house that I claimed as my own. Nirvana was the soundtrack of my teenage angst and rebellious junior high years.

Chamillionaire – Ridin’ 

I will never forget blasting this song as loud as I could in my 1995 Oldsmobile Achieva, or ‘The Cheeba’ as Mike Scholz would call it, when I first got my license. Lots of terrible rap music was played, but this one sticks out to me the most. It could have been worse– I could have picked “King Kong” by Jibbs.

Phil Collins – In the Air Tonight

Although this is one of the most calming songs, I get pumped up everytime I hear it. This was one of our go to pre-game locker room songs for the 2006 Mentor Cardinals Football team.  Anyone who played sports growing up know that the bond between teammates is life long. Great memories with great pals. Shout out to Nick B,  Scholz and Jeric for cheering their hearts out every game, even if they don’t remember most of it (Editor’s note: No comment from the editor).

Kid Cudi – Pursuit of Happiness

Have to give some love to my favorite hometown artist. This dude opened my mind in ways I have never experienced. His perfect balance of electronic beats under his raspy raps caught my attention immediately and I’ve been jammin’ to him ever since. Not to mention he kills it on my favorite canceled HBO show, “How to Make it in America”.

Lil Wayne – Swag Surfin

The No Ceilings mixtape is amazing and what I believe to be the last decent piece of work by Weezy. This song is no doubt a banger. Lots of hazy memories in cars and poorly ventilated basements attached to this one. So many great one liners on this album. I remember receiving texts from editor Nick B. with random lines from this mixtape; reading them in his voice made them even better.

Brand New – Archers

These guys are great. Four albums, four different feels. Their first album had that pop-punk feel that every high school kid could relate to (shoutout to groobsteez), but for me they are much more than that. I’ve seen these guys all over the country, hands down the best live performers I have ever seen.

Skrillex – Summit

I can’t get enough of this track. I am not sure if my obsession is because of the song itself, or the music video. I think it may be a combo of the beautiful sounds that accompany the perfect edit of the visuals. Take a few minutes to watch, you won’t regret it.

Miike Snow – Animal

A good amount of my most cherished college memories were made about 4 hours south of where I attended college– in Athens, Ohio. Specifically, 90 West, or the Greg as they called it. Cramming an unsafe amount of humans into a bedroom for a dance party every weekend may not have been the smartest idea, but it sure was the most fun. The guys at 90 West, aka a few of the editors of this wonderful blog — Nick and Wes – were always ahead of the curve musically, and this is a track that will always bring back good memories (Editor’s note: Heyyy thanks for the love, AWhite!).

Gaslight Anthem – The ‘59 Sound

I’m not sure if it was the sweet salty ocean air of Asbury Park, NJ or the fact that it was my first music festival experience, but Bamboozle was amazing. These guys absolutely killed their set and I have been hooked ever since.

The Beatles – Hey Jude

The Beatles are one of those bands that bring me back to car rides with dad, but singing Hey Jude at Bonnaroo 2013 with Paul McCartney, a few of my closest pals and 80,000 others just might take the cake as my all-time favorite musical memory. I hope it can be topped someday, but I have a hard time believing that it will.

ODESZA - Say My Name

Because sometimes all you need do is throw some headphones on and vibe out for a bit and everything seems to be right in the world.
