Isn’t it great that a Song can bring out that nostalgic feeling from years ago, cheer you up on a shitty day, or just make you want to grind on a stranger at the club? As of November 18^th, 2015 I’ve been on this earth 9,831 days and have listened to at least six times as many songs. That’s a lot of feels. So let’ go on a little journey through my life of music and call it my ‘AudioBiography’.

Limp Bizkit – Nookie

Confession: the first Album I ever purchased was Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water. I was 12, so shout-out to whatever Sam Goody employee thought it was a good idea to sell this album to a 12 year old. 2000 was an interesting year. I mean, people thought Y2K was a thing. Thank god this phase was short lived or I’d probably be in prison with a spider web elbow tattoo or a heroin addiction.

Nelly – Country Grammar (Edited Version)

Mean mugs and shoulder shrugs ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Because I didn’t know any better and Carson Daly told me it was good music. Boom boom baby. Wait what? The unedited lyrics are what? Street sweeper? Oh yeah, I for sure knew that.

Usher – U Got It Bad

Brings me back to soaking myself in Adidas Move before middle school dances and passing notes to whoever was the bae of the week. Ahh yes, much simpler times: days of AOL instant messenger (chiksdigthegroob, hit me up), Napster, dial up internet, and puka shells.

blink-182 – Dammit

This song pretty much defines my youth. Every day went something like: skate, attempt to play guitar, and maybe jump off a house into some bushes. Thanks, Bam Margera. To say we didn’t have a care in the world would be an understatement. BSP for life.

New Found Glory  – My Friends Over You

Let’s keep the pop punk theme going. Fortunately, if I want to take a trip down pop punk memory lane Spotify was kind enough to create this playlist.

Brand New – SoCo Amaretto Lime.

Two words: drunken anthem. Countless nights pounding actual SoCo and lime shots in Al’s kitchen until the ritual 2 am session of screaming lyrics that meant the world to us. I think we believed the louder we yelled the greater the chance we might actually stay 18 forever.

A Day to Remember – The Plot to Bomb the PanHandle.

Manchester Orchestra – Where Have You Been?

Could have picked any track from I’m Like a Virgin Losing a Child as it’s probably my all-time favorite album. Manchester Orchestra has evolved into my favorite band by pumping out album after album of fantastic tunage good for any mood.

Drake – Over 

I don’t think anyone bumped Drake and Wayne from 2009 – 2011 harder than Daniel Boyd. I’m 90% sure his homepage was DatPiff.com. 76 Mill will go down in history as the best year of my tenure at Ohio University.

The Wonder Years – Passing Through a Screen Door

One thing that hasn’t changed over the years is my love for pop punk. This tweet could not be more applicable. It’s always great when the lyrics of a song define exactly how you’re feeling at the time.

The Story So Far – Clairvoyant

Obligatory sappy emo song. Went through some interesting transitions in 2014 and for whatever reason this song is one that just kept getting played. Evidenced by Spotify informing me it was my top track of 2014.

Slow Magic – Youth Group

Inspired by my dear friend and Glass Duffle contributor, Nick ‘Swaglia’ Battaglia [Editor’s note: this post was not contingent on a shout-out], I started listening to more ‘electronic’ tunes. This album was a gateway drug into the world of indie beat makers and synthetic mind-warping.

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Californication

As most of you know I recently– well, 11 months ago– moved 2,254 miles away from everything I’ve ever known to start something new in California. Sometimes you just have to jump in blind and see what happens. No ragrets.

Phoenix – 1901

I was super late to the Phoenix game and I have to thank Sirius XM’s AltNation (channel 36) for this one. AltNation introduced me the likes of Young the Giant, Grouplove, and countless others. I guess it’s a good thing I forgot to cancel my subscription after that 3 month trial.

Joyce Manor – Heart Tattoo

This song inspired me to get a tattoo to honor my Grandmother after she passed away this year so it will always have a special meaning.

Klingande – Jubel

Dat sax. If I had to guess I probably listened to this song 1000 times this summer [Editor’s note: Can confirm]. This song lead to a strange obsession with any song containing a hint of saxophone. Apologies to those who had to bear with me during those dark times.

The Menzingers – I Don’t Wanna Be An Asshole Anymore

Let’s be real, nobody likes assholes anyway. There’s not a doubt in my mind that Rented World will be my most played album this year.
