SituPlaylist: Dusk on the Dancefloor

So I’m sitting here working the other day, listening to my own playlist– poolside– like some sort of narcissist, right? I don’t know, do producers listen to their own tracks in their spare time? Kanye maybe? Anyway, a confession: I think I’ve only actually played “poolside’ near a body of water once, maybe twice; it’s a nice groovy headboppin’ mix for when I’m working on a Friday afternoon most of the time…or at least it is now (more on that in a minute). Whilst hard laboring, the heavy instrumental-laden soundtrack didn’t detatch me from my work…except for when it did. As I was moving through the playlist the other day, I found myself turned off by the differentiating beats per minute in a lot of the tracks. There were some wherein the beat was too undoubtedly engrossing to do anything but surrender to it and start dancing manically (And to that I did as Wes can attest); other songs felt perfectly at home trickling out of the speaker and around a subtlety wiggling body during a pool lounge in mid-July.

The gentleman from whom this post is written lovingly touches fingertips with one of his favorite people, Becky. It’s like a butchered attempt at a wedding invitation, but in the midst of shooting I remembered that I forgot to pay the cable bill on time before leaving…

In short, I think I may have fucked this up initially! So here’s what I’ve done. Some of the more uptempo, vocalized, heavy bass tracks are now apart of the spinoff show “dusk on the dancefloor“, a name inspired by a frenetic heart-pounding weekend in Chicago at the inaugural Mamby on the Beach. Sets underneath the Tent– our mainstay– consisted of Dancefloor ready house and techno, especially on Sunday. Moon Boots, J. Philip, Cut Copy‘s surprising house DJ and Art Department all kilt it. Shoutout to friends old and new of the blog, including Andrew at Illuzion Records, Ty at Idiot Pull, and Jana at Surviving the Golden Age for showing us tourists an incredible time; we’ll be back again next year I’m sure.

The poolside playlist in the meantime will continue to welcome more chilled out, sun-drenched tracks of numerous genres. Both playlists, as is the norm around here more than not, will be updated regularly. Here is what I’m thinking moving forward:

Poolside:
Deep House
Chillwave
Tropical Pop/House
Downtempo/Beats

Dusk on the Dancefloor:
House
Garage
Techno
Nu-disco

**The aura of these playlists are a more jubilant one. If you’re looking for some deeper, darker dancefloor vibes, check out our friends at Desert Hearts, and our write up here.
