Halal Travel: Packing for your Safari

Have you ever wanted to see the wild up close and personal? One of the best ways to achieve this is by going on a safari. While there are various places around the world where you can witness wild animals in their natural habitat, there’s no doubt that places like South Africa and Tanzania hold some of best safari trips and adventures. This exciting escapade will definitely be a memorable one, something even more exciting when spent with family and friends. But what are the essentials once must pick for a fun packed day of exploring and discovery? And what are considered the most important items to Bring along? While a camera, water, and sunscreen may be among the obvious, there are a few simply items you may accidentally forget to bring along on your trip.

Safari’s are becoming more and more popular among travellers, and they are a great way to educate both adults and kids. However, among the excitement of getting ready and day dreaming of your day ahead, you’ll highly likely forget to include a few important items that never crossed your ‘to bring’ list. At Serendipity Tailormade we want all Muslim travellers to enjoy their holiday and make the most of their safari, and to do so once must prepare beforehand. We’ve listed down a few simply items that will help you enjoy your day to the max. Whether you’re travelling solo, with a partner, or the entire family, consider the below items for your next escapade.

Binoculars

While getting up close and personal with each animal you come across would be magical, the reality is you’re not going to see every creature as close as you would like to. Bringing a pair of binoculars is a must if you want to make the most of your adventurous day out. Many safari’s will take you as close as possible to the wild, but there will be a limit meaning your view may not be as perfect as you’d hoped it to be. With your handy binoculars you will be able to enjoy clear views of the wild animals going on with their lives from a safe and secure distance.

Comfortable clothes and footwear

Nothing worse than going on a safari is being uncomfortable due to your choice of clothing. It’s highly recommended you dress for the occasion and check the weather before you go. While most of the time you’ll find the weather hot and humid, it can turn chilly as the sun goes down. Make sure you wear loose clothing which you’ll be comfortable sitting and standing in for hours. It’s also a good idea to wear trainers or comfy shoes that won’t give you feet ache, but still bring along a pair of flip flops incase your feet get tired and need to get some air. A light jacket would also be recommended as you’ll likely be driving around in vehicle with all windows down. Whatever it is you choose to wear, being comfortable is definitely a must.

Camera, Batteries, and Extra Memory

This one may be an obvious one but you’d be surprised to hear how many people end up forgetting their camera due to being unprepared. If you’re bring along a specific camera make sure it’s charged up and ready before you leave. Also make sure it has enough memory left to take awesome photographs and videos of your wild experiences. Depending on your camera you may also want to bring an extra battery or back up plan such as a power bank. You’d hate yourself if you were just about to take the perfect photograph when all of a sudden your camera died! Another scenario you won’t want to happen is running out of memory or storage on your camera or phone! Where possible, bring along an extra memory card, or ensure you have the necessary tools to transfer images on the go if you’re really running out of space.

Sunglasses & hats

Protecting yourself from the sun is a must, not just for your eyes and skin, but for your overall health. Spending too much time under the direct sunlight may make you feel dizzy or unwell, making sunglasses and a hat as essentials. We recommend you choose a pair of sunglasses that have UV protection, and a hat that will provide shade for your face. Both these products will play a big part in making your day an enjoyable, comfortable and stylish one.

First aid kit

Don’t worry, we’re not getting you prepared to get physical with the wild, but we do advise bringing along a small first aid kid that has the essentials. Bandages, band aids, necessary medication you may need, and even sunscreen can be kept in your first aid kit, something you’d definitely not want to forget.

Sarong or shawl

Popularly known as a sarong or shawl, these pieces of garments are light and easy to wrap around your body to prevent direct heat. Being thin pieces of silky cloth, they work great as a cover up, protection from the sun, and even something to help dry you off incase you get wet. Being available in so many shades and styles, your sarong/shawl can become stylish part of your outfit.

Water & Snacks

An adventurous day in the wild can be a lot of hard word, even if you’re only sitting around and standing up to see the beautiful creatures roaming around. Bringing enough water and food along your journey will definitely keep you in the energetic mood. Staying hydrated is even more important, so make sure you stock up on water and have enough to last you the trip. Bring along your favourite snacks to give you the extra energy you’ll need.

A reliable bag

All of the above wouldn’t be complete without a handy bag to put everything in. Make sure you bring along a durable bag that is big enough to hold your goods, but not too big that it makes it annoying and takes up to much space. Be consider and remember you’ll like have others travelling with you. It’s also good to consider a bag that is easy to access in case you quickly need to grab your camera!
