Travel Tips: How to travel light

Preparing for a Holiday can be stressful. One of the most stressful parts is packing and preparing the things you’ll need to take while you’re away. A lot of the time many people over pack causing extra weight that isn’t needed, extra expenses at the airport, and the inconvenience of having to carry around a whole lot more than you need. When it comes to packing, and preparing yourself for your next halal friendly holiday, always remember that while you don’t want to have to buy things that you forgot to bring, forgetting or leaving certain products and personal things at home isn’t the end of the day.

Packing for a holiday isn’t as easy as one thinks. While it sounds like all you have to do is insert some clothes and personal products into your suitcase, a lot of thought actually needs to be put into the whole procedure. Packing the most important essentials is a must, and one of the best ways to do this is by making a list of things you need to bring, and the extra things you want to bring. Not only will this help you keep track of everything in case something goes missing, but it will also help eliminate the extra items you don’t really need.

While making a list always have two columns, the things you need, and the things you want to take. Take note of your allowed weight for your flight, and use that to adjust the number of items you bring. Having a digital scale is always another great way to ensure you don’t go overweight. When listing down your items always include the important things first. All your personal documents, personal items, clothes and etc. Keep in mind that toiletries can be bought abroad, just as clothes can be washed and bought at your destination. A lot of people make the mistake of packing way too many clothes in fear of running out while on holiday. Bringing the essential items for the first week or two is a good idea; this includes toiletries and clothes. A two-week supply will fit perfectly in your suitcase without going overboard. If you’re staying at your destination for more than two weeks, then considering to have your clothes washed at your hotel can save a whole lot of unwanted extra weight.

Once you’ve sorted out what personal items and clothing you need to bring, consider the type of footwear you’ll need. Another mistake many people make is by bringing a handful of shoes on holiday with them, when they’ll end up wearing only one or two out of the five they bring! When packing footwear, always keep your destination in mind and what you plan on doing while on holiday. If you’re travelling to a hot country and will be spending most of your time on the beach then boots and high heeled shoes won’t be needed, just like if you’re travelling to a destination where you’ll be doing a lot of trekking and walking, then trainers and good supportive footwear are the type of shoes you’ll need. One of the best ways to ensure you have the right footwear you’ll need is by taking a pair of flip flops or sandals that are easy on the feet and can be used for indoor wear or while roaming around the beach, hotel or resort, a pair of comfy shoes such as trainers for the flight, long walks and adventurous activities, and perhaps a pair of more formal shoes for dining out. Whatever you choose to take, try and make sure you can see yourself actually wearing them while away.

At the end of the day, packing should be a fun and exciting time, not a stressful one. Getting ready for your big holiday should be as exciting as booking your tickets and boarding your plane. Always remember that while you don’t want to forget anything or leave behind you favorite outfit, book, gadgets and etc, if you don’t see yourself using it while away, then don’t bring it. Leaving enough free weight and space for your return is also a must. Almost everyone goes shopping abroad whether it be for souvenirs or their own personal items, and while your suitcases weight may be fine upon departure, upon returning you won’t want to have to leave behind anything you’ve bought due to being overweight.

Plan ahead and carry the most essential items you’ll need. Make a list and keep to it! Once you’ve packed your suitcase try not to add to it, but most of all enjoy it! Enjoy the moment you start planning out your holiday, to the moment you start packing, and board your plane. Make the most of your holiday and remember that while you may miss certain items you can’t bring along, you’ll soon be enjoying an adventurous holiday with plenty of sceneries, activities, cuisines, and fun to keep you entertained.
