Throughout this year of intense travel we've witnessed quite a few astonishing sceneries, and among them the sunsets might very well be the cream of the crop. As we've started to summarize the year and look back through all our photos, we've found our five favorite sunsets of the year - and here they are, in no particular order:
Sunset #1: Perpignan, France (June 18)
Basically one of our most liked photos of the year on Instagram, and we are fully aware of the reason for that. Usually the greatest sunset shots are taken by the ocean or from a hilltop, but this one was actually taken on a bridge over a canal in the small city of Perpignan. A place we're longing to (hopefully) return to sometime in 2015, by the way.
Sunset #2: Dénia, Spain (September 5)
Taken by the end of the summer in the port town of Dénia in Spain's Costa Blanca (White Coast), this photo really captured the magic view from the ferry as we were disembarking for Ibiza at 7.30 PM. The clouds over the mountain are just breathtaking.
Sunset #3: Ibiza, Spain (September 10)
When we took photo #2 in Dénia, we already knew Ibiza is famous for the sunsets on the western side of the island, so this photo was sort of expected to be taken, while the one in Dénia was more of a surprise. However, this picture doesn't fully capture the magic that takes place at Café Del Mar in Ibiza, every sundown throughout the whole summer; the warm sea breeze, the music and the hordes of tourists flocking there just to stare at the sun for 30 minutes before heading out to enjoy the spectacular nightlife. Every day, all summer long.
Sunset #4: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (March 14)
This is the only photo on our list that was taken outside of Europe. It's not because we didn't experience amazing sunsets in South America, but rather because we had so much to do during the days that we were too tired to go grab our cameras when the sun went down. However, this photograph was shot by the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, or "Lagoa" as it's more commonly referred to, which by the way is a lovely place to take a walk around sunset.
Sunset #5: Baltic Sea, somewhere between Sweden and Poland (August 4)
Like #2, this photo was taken from a ferry - M/S Stena Spirit. It's likely we were still on Swedish water while shooting this, as it was taken just some 30 minutes after departing from Karlskrona harbour. This is one of those photos that say more than a thousand words.
Bonus photo: This day in our travel history; London, England (November 1, 2013)
When we reminisce about our past travels, a trip we always remember with great warmth is the one we did to Ireland, Scotland and England, exactly a year ago to this day. While getting to New York for the first time might be an unbeatable feeling, experiencing London is a close second.
