To the Tables and Beyond: A Sneak Peek into Online Gaming

Online gaming has become one of the hottest entertainment trends in the United States. Introduced back in November 2013, Online Gambling i now fully regulated in three U.S. states including New Jersey, Delaware and Nevada. By far, the biggest online gambling market is New Jersey – which managed to rake in an impressive $122 million during 2014 alone. Travellers to NJ are now able to enjoy fully licensed online casino games wherever they go in the Garden State. Provided you meet the two basic requirements – 21 and over, and physically present in the state – you can enjoy real money casino entertainment online.

Leading the charge in NJ is Caesars Online Casino with scores of skill-based games and chance-based games. Tourists are being introduced to New Jersey’s latest draw card at the mega casinos of Atlantic City where the online gaming option is presented to players. You can power up your PC, smartphone or tablet and enjoy an authentic Vegas-style experience from the comforts of your hotel room, at the iconic Atlantic City Boardwalk, or any of the magnificent historical sites in the state. Games like roulette, blackjack, baccarat and video slots galore are readily available. Lawmakers in California and Pennsylvania are now spearheading initiatives to regulate online gaming in their states too.

What Lies Ahead for Online Gambling in the U.S.?

California lawmakers have been toying with the notion of legalized online poker for quite some time. Before any deals are struck, there has to be consensus among the Native American Tribes in California, since they are the powerbrokers in the casino industry. To date, there have been deep divisions among the two factions, owing to the inclusion of a ‘bad actor’ clause which will preclude PokerStars from setting up shop in California. As a result, lawmakers are burning the candle at both ends to come to agreement with the tribes regarding the precise language that needs to be included in upcoming poker bills in the California state legislature. There is unlikely to be any move towards legalizing online casino gambling in California anytime soon, but online poker legislation looks like a plausible prospect. Should California adopt such measures, tourism to the Golden State will increase as this is the world’s biggest poker market. With over 38 million people and an active player base, California will revolutionize the online poker industry in the U.S.

Other states that will have an impact on the online gambling landscape in the U.S. include Pennsylvania. As one of the leading gambling states in the country, online gaming legislation in the Keystone State will be a massive boon for the nascent industry. Gambling Compliance’s report listed 10 states likely to move towards expanded online gambling legislation. These include New Jersey, California, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Hawaii, Colorado, Massachusetts, and Mississippi. A peek into the future of online gambling reveals that Nevada will attempt to introduce legislation to expand online gaming to include online casino and not only online poker. Opponents of expanding legislation in Nevada and at federal level include Sheldon Adelson – the casino mogul. Beyond merely expanding legislation to include additional gaming, states are looking to establish online gaming compacts with other states to increase player numbers and jackpot prize pools. Another issue under discussion is that of including foreign bets – which will dramatically increase the revenues of U.S. states. All in all the future of U.S. online gambling is bright, and even though it’s slow going the wheels are turning!
