The best UK sporting events to look forward to this summer

As spring descends upon us, we’re all looking Forward to topping up our tee-shirt tans and focusing on the Great British Summer. With barbecue season just around the corner, there is also plenty to look forward to in the field of great British Sporting Events. Whether you’re a local or travelling from afar, here are some great sporting events you can’t miss out on this summer.

The Tour de Yorkshire

After a hugely successful Grand Depart in 2014, the spirit of the Tour de France will be returning to Yorkshire once again in 2015 with the Tour de Yorkshire, taking place from 1st to 3rd May. Last year, the famed cycling race went through some of the biggest cities in God’s Own County, from Leeds to York, and it’s back again for a three-day event which will display some of the most exciting racing around amongst some of the most beautiful landscapes.

Wimbledon

It’s one of the most Highly Anticipated events in the sporting calendar, and Wimbledon Tennis Championships in 2015 will be no exception. As the oldest tennis tournament in the world, viewers come in their droves to witness the likes of the Williams sisters and Novak Djokovic smash their way through to the final. You can catch this mesmerising event from 29th June to 12th July.

The British Grand Prix

We’re already well into this year’s Formula 1 season, but while it takes us to exotic locations around the world from Japan to Abu Dhabi, without a doubt one of the most exciting races will take place this summer at Silverstone. The current record holder for the fastest lap at this course is the inimitable Lewis Hamilton, who will doubtless be gunning for yet another championship title this year – and you can catch all the action from 3rd to 5th July.

The 2015 Rugby World Cup

After a successful hosting bid back in 2009, it has now been confirmed that the highly anticipated Rugby World Cup will take place at a number of English locations from 18th September to 31st October. Experts at Coral have already got their eye on sell-out matches at some of the UK’s biggest venues from Leeds’ Elland Road to Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium. If you can really only make one match however, be sure to catch the final on Halloween at Twickenham Stadium.
