Trincomalee: A port city




Trincomalee is a well known tourist destination in the east cost of Sri Lanka, 300km away from Colombo. Trincomalee is well connected with Colombo by road, rail and air. Road transport is popular among travelers and it takes just seven hours to come from Colombo.

You can easily get budget hotels in the Main Town, and if you are looking for some of the leading hotels, they are in Nilaveli, which is seven kilometers from Trincomalee town.

Koneswaram Kovil and Swami Rock are also famous among travelers, which are located in the Old Dutch Port. The rock is situated 170 meters higher from the sea level- also known as Lover’s Rock. Trincomalee Harbor Entrance, Foul Point, numerous Fishing boats and shipping can be well observed from here. The Konewaram Kovil, which is situated on the top of the rock, is famous among Hindus. The Old Portuguese Fort reminiscent of colonial era is a must see if you are in this part of the beautiful country.

There are seven hot water springs in Trincomalee. All these springs are located eight kilometers away from the main town. They are also known to have different temperatures!

You can go to Pigeon Island for snorkeling and diving. Colorful coral gardens and different species of fish are one of the many great attractions. If you are here during the months of January and April, you can also watch blue whales and sperm whales and the best way to do that is to hire a boat from the locals.

Trincomalee is also a well known fishing destination where you can fish from the shore or opt for deep sea fishing.
