Finally, in case you were wondering why we eat turkey on Thanksgiving Day, there are three theories about it. The first one tells that Pilgrim Edward Winslow attended the first Thanksgiving celebration at the Plymouth Plantation in 1621, where the religious refugees from England (the Pilgrims) invited the local Native Americans to a harvest feast after a successful growing season and that leter on he wrote a letter in which he mentioned a turkey hunt before that dinner. Another theory says that the choice of turkey was inspired by Queen Elizabeth I, who was eating dinner when she heard that Spanish ships had sunk on their way to attack England, and she was so thrilled with the news, that she ordered another goose be served, therefore, some claim early US settlers roasted turkeys as they were inspired by her actions. Others say that as wild turkeys are native to North America, they were a natural choice for early settlers.
