West Coast - 39 Seater Luxury Coach Touring / Part 1

The West Coast in the Western Cape. Beautiful, peaceful and welcoming.

We leave Cape Town from Milnerton in a 39 seater luxury coach. This luxury coachis one of the top of the range luxury coaches that provides features such as reclining seats, DVD/Audio/PA, air-conditioning, refridgerator/beverage facilities, onboard toilet and under carriage luggage storage for your luggage.

Milnerton is known for the colossal Century City and its Canal Walk shopping component with a golf course that stretches between the Deep River and the sea. Deep River drains Rietvlei, a large march north of the town, and ends in Milnerton Lagoon.

We can either travel on the West Coast Road or we can go along the beach front through Bloubergstrand. About 15km north of Milnerton we reach Bloubergstrand.

Bloubergstrand has grown into one of the country’s prime coastal resorts over the past few decades. The Benguela Current is far more cooler than the current of False Bay and for this reason, fishing is excellent. There is no better place than Bloubergstrand from where to view the changing moods of Table Mountain.

As we amble along the beach front we coast into Melkbosstrand. Its name is derived from a plant known as Melk bos, meaning “milk wood” which was known to grow in abundance in this area. This resort boasts of fine fishing, beach running and kite surfing. As we continue along the beach road we get to a t - junction and we connect on to the R27 or as some call it the West Coast Road, where we travel towards a holiday resort called Yzerfontein.

Yzerfontein some 85km from Cape Town is very popular among surfers and anglers. The name is derived from a spring rising on an ironstone formation about 3km inland. Whales are seeking out this protected bay in increasing numbers to mate and calve.

In the bay off Yzerfontein is Dassen Island that serves as a predator free sanctuary for seabirds. From here we get back onto the R27 and head for Langebaan where we can enjoy lunch amongst other things.

Langebaan is a resort village on the eastern shore of the Langebaan lagoon that attracts visitors from all over the world and one of the main attractions are the West Coast National Park. This National Park include the Langebaan tidal lagoon and the islands of Jutten, Malgas, Schaapen and Marcus.

Over the last couple of years the park was enlarged to 24,700 ha by incorporating larger portions of the coast and various areas that make up the park as it stands today. One of the attractions of the area of Langebaan today is Club Mykonos Casino and the yacht basin at Mykonos. Now that we have seen the West Coast National Park and shopped until our hearts content, we proceed to the outdoor rustic eating place where traditional food is prepared on the beach and where we enjoy it the way the early settlers use to do, on the beach and as close to nature as you can get it. Now that we have satisfied the lust of the flesh we board the luxury coach, kick off our shoes recline the seats and hope to get some shut eye.

In the distance we see Saldanha Bay, our next place of interest to visit.

Stay tuned for Part 2 of The West Coast Tour.
