New Flight Attendants

For new Flight Attendants, the salary base could seem rather harsh. It is estimated at around about 22,000 dollars. This would mean that they would be earning around about 13 dollars an hour. Not very much at all. Considering that many flight attendants do get paid by their flight hours, it may come as a surprise to you that flight attendants are only paid for hours in the air. On average 29% of the flight attendant field is filled by attendants with less than 1 year experience.

Experienced Flight Attendants

With more than 10 years of work experience, a flight attendant could be looking to earn more than 60,000 dollars a year. Like any other profession though, to make it to that 10 year and above mark is a lot of hard work. On average 24% of the flight attendant field is filled by staff with more than 10 years of experience. This means that there are a lot more first year attendants than attendants with more than 10 years experience.

The Benefits

Most flight attendants do have access to medical benefits. About 3 out of every 4 flight attendants also have the ability to get dental insurance from their employers. This drops to about 58% when it comes to vision insurance. One would think that vision insurance for the industry is more important than dental insurance.

75% of flight attendants are female with the remainder being male.

Location

Location really does matter. Flight attendants based out of New York, San Francisco or Los Angeles can expect a better salary. Cost of living in those big cities must be considered as well though. Surprisingly, Miami and Atlanta are home to some of the lowest national averages for flight attendant salaries.
