Flying and Tomato Juice

We all know that feeling. We never ever drink Tomato Juice and all of a sudden as we sit on the flight we are inclined to have a can or cup of tomato juice. Lufthansa has even conducted research that seems to point to the fact that tomato juice possibly tastes better at higher altitude than at ground level.

Tomato Juice are a popular airline drink

This may explain why people are inclined to order tomato juice on flights.

Real soda addicts will know that when on a plane it is always best to ask for the can and not have the soda poured into your cup. Firstly, you get more soda but moreover soda tends to lose its fizz a lot quicker at high altitude.

People often give airline food a bad wrap but the truth of the matter is that scientists have proven that food is less likely to be tasty up in the sky. The best way to explain it is that the cabin pressure along with the changes in the body lead to a state of a “cold” for the taste buds. This means that everything is slightly flavorless and sometimes even off flavor. Everything except for certain things like tomato juice. The lack of taste bud preciseness takes off some of the moldiness that people often claim to have with tomato juice.

Making a Bloody Mary or just drinking the tomato juice neat is somewhat of flying tradition for some people and they drink it for no other reason other than to keep up their traditions.

While on earth it is most certain that the good old OJ reigns supreme when it comes to the skies for reasons we can only speculate it tomato juice is king.
