ART BASEL HONG KONG

MARCH 27-31, 2019

Art Basel, the global network of art fairs that have transformed the worldwide art market, returns to Hong Kong for its seventh edition March 27-31. The fair which was founded in Basel, Switzerland in 1970 and expanded to Miami in 2002, added Art Basel Hong Kong in 2013 to explore Asian markets.

As China has opened itself up to the west, it has established itself over the last two decades as a cultural and financial powerhouse. Its recent proliferation of millionaires and billionaires has made it the second-largest art market in the world.

Prominent galleries and established and emerging artists from across the globe will exhibit at Art Basel Hong Kong. However, in an effort to maintains its commitment to the Asia-Pacific region,  half of Art Basel Hong Kong’s participating galleries come from within the region.

Who:               242 galleries, representing 35 countries

This year’s show will feature 21 galleries making their Art Basel Hong Kong debut.

Multi-media artwork from leading Modern and Contemporary galleries.

Highlight: Debuting Korean abstractionist Yoo Youngkuk of Kukje Gallery

Insights          

Works highlighting artists from the wide-spanning Asia-Pacific region, from 1900 to the present day.

Highlight: Debuting New York artist Tishan Hsu of Empty Gallery

Discoveries    

A platform for emerging contemporary artists to showcase their work at an early stage in their career.

Highlight: Debuting Burmese artist Moe Satt of Nova Contemporary

Kabinett

21 curated exhibitions by established and emerging artists with a strong focus on talent from Asia.

Highlight: Untitled (Mekamelencolia — Velvet #5 DDRG18LM) by Lee Bul of Lehmann Maupin

Encounters    

Large-scale sculpture and installation works by leading artists from around the world.
