Putu Piring is originated from India and it is pretty popular food in Malaysia. However, in recent times you don’t find many people selling putu piring anymore even in night markets maybe due to the profitability and lots of work to make.

Putu means rice in Tamil and it is called piring is named after its shape of the plate. Putu Piring is made with rice flour with filling of palm sugar or Gula Melaka (coconut sugar) and topped with coconut flakes.

The Putu Piring will be covered with cloth and steamed to perfection. After it is cooked, the seller will stack the putu piring on top of the banana leaf.

The famous Putu Piring from Tengkera Melaka is soft in texture and it comes with Gula Melaka filling with the crunchy coconut flakes. What makes it so tasty is the generous amount of Gula Melaka filling and do eat this while it is warm. The coconut flakes gives the putu piring more texture and this tasty putu piring is RM 1.30 each.

The Famous Putu Piring Tengkera Melaka is often packed with locals during weekdays while tourists during weekends. The queue can be long but do remember to follow the RMCO SOP (Recovery Movement Control Order Standard Operating Procedure).
