Late last year Princess Cruises decided to trial an all-inclusive drinks package on eight of their ships. Well it seems that the trials must have gone well as three more ships are now going to have the package available from the 1st April 2014.
I know that opinions on whether these drinks packages should be available to passengers or not differ but I personally am all for it.
I really liked the Grand Princess when I went to see her a while back in Southampton but I do remember at the time being taken back when I saw the drinks prices on-board. I remember at the time there were waiters serving cans of Fosters to people and charging $7.50 for them.
I personally like to be able to cap the bar bill at a reasonable cost per day and then have the freedom to have what I like, when I like.
The new drinks package has very similar costs and offerings to other cruise lines that Princess compete with, like Celebrity Cruises for example. I think it is the right thing to introduce this package from a business point of view as no doubt it will effect decision making of clients when deciding who to book their cruise with.
The package costs $49 per person per day (plus 15% gratuities) and is only available on cruises of 7 nights or longer. Both passengers in the cabin must purchase the package for the entire cruise.
The package includes all beers, spirits, cocktails and wine priced below $10 as well as soda, cocktails, shakes and speciality coffees.
There is also a 40% discount on bottled wines priced less than $100 a bottle.
