Wa Lolita

Day 2 of Tokyo Street Style Week marches forward with Style Arena’s survey of Cyber-kei. You’ll recognize DJ Sisen and other Tokyo Decadance regulars in these photos; the club night is, of course, is ground zero for futuristic fashion. Style Arena cites the use of “metals, plastic, vinyl, and rubber”, “metallic and florescent colors,” and the influence of manga, anime, and video games.

One cannot talk about Wa-kei without mentioning Takuya Angel, the brand that fuses traditional patterns (kimono, geta) with modern Tokyo’s cutting-edge looks (cosplay, Gothic, Lolita, and cyber). Most of these photos are from a Takuya Angel photoshoot from last October (that’s my friend Count de Sang on the top right) – but Qutie Fresh and Lacrima also offer Gothic and Lolita styles with Wa patterns.

Goth + Punk, Goth + Mode… Dark elegance manifests itself both on the streets and in expensive stores. Do you think we’ll be seeing more of Wa Lolita in 2009?
